About the team and role:

Deakin remains a leader in cyber security and quality assurance – empowering the university to confidently navigate challenges and ensure Deakin’s organisational resilience.

The team safeguards Deakin’s digital assets by detecting and responding to threats, managing risks, ensuring cyber awareness and embedding a zero-trust security strategy. Through initiatives such as Project Lighthouse, we enhance Deakin’s cyber security maturity, ensuring a proactive and resilient approach to evolving cyber threats.

The Lead, Cyber Security Threat Intelligence leads the University’s threat intelligence function and contributes to planning, prioritisation and decision-making aligned to University priorities. The role integrates threat intelligence, cyber risk information, stakeholder insight and operational requirements to strengthen the University's tactical and operational cyber threat intelligence capability, inform proactive risk management and support effective cyber security outcomes across a complex and evolving threat landscape.

As a Lead, you will:

  • Lead and mature the tactical and operational cyber threat intelligence capability
  • Oversee Threat Intelligence Platform (TIP) and IOC integration with SOC/SIEM
  • Act as the primary intelligence liaison to security operations and security engineering
  • Lead threat modelling workshops and support exercise/tabletop scenarios across technology domains
  • Provide intelligence support to incident response and major cyber events

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and expertise.
  • Demonstrated success leading programs, functions or major initiatives in complex environments.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive informed decision-making.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders, build productive relationships and communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Sound understanding of governance and policy frameworks, with experience in threat detection tools and techniques.
