About the role:
We are seeking an outstanding and forward-thinking academic leader to join Deakin Business School as Professor or Associate Professor in Accounting, with the concurrent appointment of Discipline Group Chair (DGC) for Accounting.
In this pivotal leadership role, you will provide strategic direction and academic stewardship for the Accounting discipline, driving excellence in teaching, research, and engagement. As Discipline Group Chair, you will lead and inspire a high-performing academic team, championing innovation and fostering a culture of collaboration, performance, and continuous improvement.
Reporting to the Deputy Dean, you will be responsible for implementing the School’s strategic priorities within the discipline, ensuring alignment with its vision, academic objectives, and performance expectations.

You responsibilities will include:
- Provide strategic leadership to the discipline team, fostering a culture of outstanding teaching, high-impact research, and meaningful service aligned with the school’s vision.
- Allocate academic workloads in line with strategic priorities, mentor staff at all career stages, and drive workforce initiatives that promote continuous learning, leadership growth, and long-term retention.
- Deliver internationally recognised research in a distinct management field, secure major research funding, and lead innovation projects that generate real-world and commercial impact.
- Lead curriculum design and assessment development that is learner-centred, research-informed, and industry-integrated, enhancing student outcomes across disciplines.
- Champion a high-performance culture by setting clear expectations, empowering future leaders, strengthening research capability, and ensuring excellence across teaching, research, and engagement outcomes.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- PhD in a relevant discipline
- Evidence of original, innovative and distinguished contribution to scholarship and teaching, research and research supervision
- Demonstrated success as an eminent authority at the national and international level in research and scholarship through high quality publications, and exhibitions as relevant to the discipline.
- Sustained success in obtaining competitive external research grants.
- Excellence in engagement with research, community, industry and government to enhance the national and international standing of the discipline.
- Demonstrated success and passion for leading teaching, research and administration.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain productive collaborations within discipline and multidisciplinary teams.
