Why work with us?
At Deakin you will have access to benefits such as a variety of leave options including generous parental leave and the ability to purchase additional leave; flexible working arrangements to help manage your work-life balance; ongoing learning and development opportunities to grow your career; an inclusive and supportive culture and environment to work in, both online and on campus.
About the role:
The Student Success team at Deakin University is committed to empowering students to achieve their academic goals and realise their full potential. As part of the Student Outcomes portfolio, we partner across the University to deliver initiatives that enhance student progress, retention, and success.
We are a collaborative, solutions-focused team that values continuous improvement, proactive support, and meaningful stakeholder engagement. Through strategic resource planning and a shared pool of Student Outcomes expertise, we respond to peak demands, manage complex matters, and ensure our people and capabilities are aligned to deliver impact where it matters most — student success.
We are looking for someone who brings:
- Significant experience leading professional staff teams, ideally in student support, academic or similarly complex environments
- Confidence in having direct, respectful and timely performance conversations
- A track record of setting clear expectations and upholding cultural and behavioural standards
- Strong capability in navigating competing priorities, risk and stakeholder complexity
- Demonstrated experience in resource planning and allocation, balancing immediate operational needs with strategic objectives
- Sound judgement, resilience and the ability to re prioritise work as conditions shift
- The capacity to influence across functions and build collaborative, ethical partnerships
About you:
You will be someone who brings clarity in complex systems, analyses problems rigorously, weighs options carefully and implements solutions with discipline. You understand that culture does not happen by accident. You actively shape it, model it and correct it when needed.
If you are a strategic thinker who can lead people with courage and accountability, while improving systems and strengthening collaboration across a large organisation, we welcome your application.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or
- Extensive experience and management expertise; or
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
- Experience in managing teams and resource allocation, particularly in student support or academic environments, with a focus on balancing operational and strategic needs during peak periods.
- Knowledge of resource management and/or student outcomes frameworks, and leading customer service practices.
Here's how to apply:
Please submit your updated resume and a short cover letter outlining your skills and experience.
