Make a real impact as a Communications Coordinator at Deakin. In this hands-on, tactically focused position, you’ll contribute to the development and delivery of communication projects, with a primary focus on working closely with the Research and Innovation portfolio. You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to share key information, drive projects and initiatives, and showcase great Deakin stories. You will partner with senior stakeholders to deliver a communications program and create engaging content across a range of channels.

Reporting to the relevant Communications Lead, the Communications Coordinator will:

  • Contribute to the implementation and evaluation of a multi-layered, proactive-focused media and corporate affairs strategy.
  • Proactively build and maintain relationships with internal and external teams and stakeholders, and Deakin faculty and portfolio contacts, to provide an end-to-end corporate communication partnering service and develop the required content to bring plans to life.
  • Select appropriate channels for communication and engagement activities with a particular focus on leveraging and further developing existing communication channels.
  • Provide communication support to staff across the University and external stakeholders, drawing on the expertise of a specialist media team as required.
  • Investigate and undertake special projects as required.
  • Support the administrative functions of the Media and Corporate Affairs team, including uploading and distributing a variety of content.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A Degree with subsequent relevant experience; or
  • Extensive experience and specialist knowledge or broad knowledge in the communication field; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • A proven ability to thrive in a high-level, detail-focused, fast-paced communications environment.
  • Experience with communication tools and applications for the purpose of monitoring news and communicating the Deakin story.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, and navigating short, competing, and changing deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with and beyond the team environment, demonstrating emotional intelligence and capacity to build networks, consult and seek advice, with a positive, solutions-focused attitude.
  • Prior experience in a similar position within research or higher education context (desirable)
