About the role

The Team Leader supports the smooth day-to-day operations of Deakin’s corporate centres and provides operational support to the Assistant Manager and wider team to deliver a range of events. Contributing to a positive and professional team environment, the Team Leader seeks out opportunities for improvement, supports the implementation of new initiatives, and provides informal guidance and support to team members. The Team Leader will establish and maintain relationships with staff, students, and external clients, uphold excellence in service delivery and contribute to a collaborative, high-trust team culture.

As a Lead, you will:

  • Coordinate operational activities including cleaning, restocking of supplies, catering orders, and audio-visual requirements to meet customer needs and ensure the smooth operation of the centre.
  • Contribute relevant information to support reporting, forecasting, targets and outcomes where required.
  • Support the design and delivery of customer interactions that meet or exceed expectations. Offer ideas aligned with market trends to help improve existing processes and practices.
  • Contribute to the development and training of staff, provide day-to-day support, and mentoring activities to ensure that everyone is aligned with team goals and best practices. Contribute to quality assurance activities and incorporate customer feedback into continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Act as a key point of contact for escalated queries and guest requirements, managing and facilitating their resolution in collaboration with the Assistant Manager. Develop and implement practical, accessible solutions based on stakeholder needs.
  • Provide advice and input event bookings, ensuring processes are in place to track and plan for events and ensure all requirements are met.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • A Degree with subsequent relevant experience; or
  • Extensive experience and specialist knowledge or broad knowledge in technical or administrative fields; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Knowledge of the hospitality industry, suppliers and systems.
  • Proven experience in coordinating and delivering high-end formal dining and cocktail events, with a strong focus on high quality service standards and execution.
