Benefits for working with us!

At Deakin, we offer more than just a job — we offer a lifestyle. Across our campuses in Geelong, Melbourne, and regional Victoria, you’ll find everything you need to thrive: on-site childcare, gyms, medical centres, cafes, accessible public transport, and convenient parking.

Enjoy flexible working arrangements that support your work-life balance, generous leave entitlements including extended parental leave and the option to purchase additional time off, plus a wide range of staff discounts on travel and more.

Our health and wellbeing services, ongoing professional development opportunities, and inclusive, supportive culture make Deakin a place where you can grow — whether you're working remotely or immersed in the vibrant energy of campus life.

As a Centre Officer, you will:

  • Support with implementing the SEED Lifespan Strategic Plan and Communications Plan. This includes supporting the update and maintenance of our various websites, issuing regular communications to internal and external stakeholders such as newsletters and enhancing our social media presence, as well as supporting the development of creative content for the translation of research such as animations and podcasts.
  • Assist in coordinating the Centre’s operations, performance, and delivery of projects in line with project milestones and contractual obligations.
  • Coordinate major initiatives, events, and cadence of meetings — preparing agendas, minutes, tracking attendance, and supporting event planning.
  • Work with Deakin central services and the SEED professional team to provide administrative, grants, and communications support to staff.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with internal stakeholders (School of Psychology, Faculty of Health, Deputy Vice‑Chancellor Research, etc.) and ensure accurate, timely reporting of grants, publications, and other organisational data.

In a typical day/week, you will:

  • Support team members to achieve individual, team, and University goals, fostering effective communication, inclusion, and rapport.
  • Role‑model professional, ethical behaviour and seek advice or information as needed to inform decision making.
  • Clarify expectations and respond promptly to customer (internal/external) requests, tailoring communication to the audience and ensuring clarity.
  • Proactively build and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders and team members, especially during periods of pressure or change.
  • Take ownership of goals and tasks: plan methodically, track progress, propose process improvements, show initiative, and adapt to evolving work demands.

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Qualification: completion of a tertiary qualification with at least 2 years’ relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education/training and relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating research administration activities and reporting on data and metrics, with a strong commitment to service excellence.
  • Experience supporting a leadership team, advisory committee, or working group, especially in scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, minutes, and meeting papers.
  • High‑level communication and interpersonal skills, able to communicate clearly, accurately, and appropriately for different audiences.
  • Excellent organisational skills; ability to work autonomously and within a dynamic team, manage multiple projects under pressure, and meet deadlines and deliverables.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem‑solving skills aligned with delivering project outcomes and contributing to strategic objectives.
