We are seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to guide a cutting-edge Midwifery Research Program, developed in close collaboration with Barwon Health's Women’s and Children’s Services Leadership Team and the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer.

This pivotal role will give you the chance to shape the future of midwifery practice and innovation, ensuring that the program aligns with the Barwon Health Research Strategic Plan. Your expertise will drive transformative research that supports high-quality care and contributes to advancing the field.

As the Chair in Midwifery (Barwon Health), you will:

  • Provide academic and professional leadership to clinical and academic staff and students at Barwon Health and Deakin University.
  • Lead midwifery-focused research programs and develop inquiry-based research to enhance clinical practice.
  • Promote quality, safe care for women and infants throughout the perinatal period.
  • Drive improved healthcare outcomes through strategic research and clinical initiatives.
  • Enhance professional recognition for Barwon Health, Deakin University, and the midwifery profession.

 

In a typical week, you will:

  • Lead and plan the midwifery research program, prioritising research and education needs, and collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure alignment with Barwon Health and Deakin University's strategic priorities.
  • Foster collaborations with academic institutions, healthcare providers, government agencies, and professional groups locally, nationally, and internationally to advance midwifery research and practice.
  • Teach, mentor, and drive professional Development by contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, mentor junior staff and HDR students, and support career development for early to mid-career researchers.
  • Drive high-quality, impactful midwifery research, secure funding, publish in reputable journals, and contribute to the advancement of midwifery research globally.
  • Represent Barwon Health and Deakin University in various forums, advocate for the midwifery profession, and promote the Barwon Health-Deakin partnership as a centre of excellence in midwifery research.

                                                                                                                                                                                      

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • PhD in a relevant discipline with demonstrated academic leadership in midwifery.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships with students, clinicians, health services, university colleagues, and the community.
  • Experience in a mid to senior health service leadership role or current clinical practice (desirable).
  • Proven teaching expertise at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with internationally recognized research and significant domestic/international research linkages.
