About the role:
The Lecturer, Open Education will contribute to enhancing the quality of student learning experiences and outcomes at Deakin by advancing course-wide adoption of Open Education. The role will build academic capability and awareness of open educational practices, working collaboratively with a small Open Education team, Scholarly Services Librarians and colleagues across the institution. By applying evidence-based approaches, the Lecturer will shape a compelling narrative for Open Education at Deakin through case study research, storytelling, and producing scholarship associated with Deakin’s Open Education programs.
As a Lecturer, Open Education, you will:
- Work collaboratively with other teaching teams to develop effective open education practices and pedagogies learning.
- Design collaborative learning opportunities at the unit level. Support diverse learners by designing accessible and inclusive unit material and practices.
- Build communities that adopt open practices and lead promotion of open education programs. Develop networks and collaborate with university colleagues to determine an approach to extending those networks into more formal alliances.
- Assist in integrating new pedagogical research across all aspects of education. Advance knowledge within their specific fields/areas of teaching, scholarship, and pedagogical research activity.
- Contribute to discipline-based educational or pedagogy research projects and demonstrate an emerging reputation in teaching scholarship and pedagogical research.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- PhD in a relevant discipline and/or other relevant qualifications and experience
- Excellent record of scholarly learning and teaching in UG and/or PG programs, including innovative curriculum design
- Emerging reputation in research and scholarship through publications and/or exhibitions and/or success in obtaining external research funding.
- Ability to contribute to communities through research.
- Capacity to contribute to leadership of research and administration.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues.
- Knowledge of academic libraries or previous collaborations with academic libraries (desirable).
