About the role

The Associate Research Fellow will collaborate on high-impact research, scholarship and creative activities at the Institute for Frontier Materials (IFM), with mentorship from senior team members. The role will support the design and development of solid-state Li-S batteries, work with domain experts and industry partners to investigate the Li-S commercialization process and apply research skills to help obtain suitable solid-state electrolyte and interfaces for high-performance solid-state Li-S batteries.

This position is suited to an emerging researcher keen to explore and build on new areas and foster research and researcher development to have real-world impact and contribute to a dynamic and enthusiastic research team.

As an Associate Research Fellow, you will:

  • Conduct high-quality research, scholarship and creative activities generating high impact outputs, with mentorship
  • Engage collaboratively to participate in novel and high-quality research or creative activities
  • Ensure impact of academic activity on the field and the community
  • Support and may lead applications for funding for research and creative activities
  • Begin building body of work and reputation and recognition for quality, excellence and impact

 To be successful, you’ll have:

  • PhD in materials engineering or electrochemistry.
  • Emerging research and scholarship through publications, and/or exhibitions as appropriate to the discipline
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues
  • Knowledge, understanding and appreciation of Li-S batteries especially the rich experiences with solid-state electrolytes, and solid-electrolyte interphases.
  • Advanced skills using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint with specific experience working with a range of analytical software.
  • Practical experience of high-throughput data analysis.
