About the role:

The Technical Officer, Film, Television & Animation is responsible for providing technical support, services, and advice to staff and students in the School of Communication and Creative Arts, including teaching, research and professional staff on technology and digital matters predominantly in discipline areas of Film, Television and Animation. The position is required to assist in the running of an efficient Media Resource Centre (MRC), ensuring equipment is in good working condition and the facility remains highly functional. In addition, the position will assist in supporting broader technical team operations, research and/or relevant activities outside of the teaching and learning components.

As a Technical Officer, you will:

  • Deliver technical advice, general instruction and support to staff and students regarding the use of complex equipment, software, production spaces and procedures in the following areas:
    • Creative production and associated equipment, including but not limited to, cameras, lighting, grip, screen/projection/audio recording devices and other associated film, broadcast and animation equipment.
    • Production studios related to filming/editing, post-production, sound recording, broadcast, animation, content creation, and other relevant creative spaces.
  • Assist the Coordinator, Digital Technologies, in the day-to-day operations across Film, Television and Animation disciplines.
  • Operate a timely and effective MRC Loan-store each day, caretaking of FTVA production assets and ensuring all equipment for teaching and learning is in excellent working condition.
  • Support the Coordinator, Digital Technologies, in planning and coordinating technical resources, including equipment maintenance, procurement, and space usage.
  • Seek out new and emerging technologies, generate new ideas and shares those ideas with others in the work area to improve process and practice to support digital service to faculties.                 

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Completion of a Degree without subsequent relevant work experience; or
  • Completion of an Associate Diploma and at least two years subsequent relevant work experience; or
  • Completion of a Post-Trades Certificate or Advanced Certificate and extensive relevant experience as a Technician; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • The ability to safely carry out regular lifting, particularly AV equipment
