The Consultant, Governance and Policy is a crucial role in the Equity and Inclusion team leading a proactive approach and developing solutions to University-wide staff discrimination, sexual harassment, victimisation, vilification and related complaints handling and reporting processes.
The role works with the Equity and Inclusion leadership to facilitate policy development, governance activities and executive briefings on matters of strategic importance.
The position manages a Project Officer direct report to support team objectives and provides high-level advice and support to the Executive Director, Equity and Inclusion.
The Consultant, Governance and Policy will:
- Plan and oversee the flow of staff complaints and enquiries, including preliminary assessment of complaints, consulting with key stakeholders as required, case management and recordkeeping.
- Lead the University’s response to complaints, made by both students and staff, via external bodies such as the Australian Human Rights Commission, Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission, VCAT, or the Victorian Ombudsman.
- Oversee effective and efficient programs and initiatives that support and uphold the University’s Positive Duty obligations, including the Harassment and Discrimination Contact Officer (HDCO) Network.
- Develop and review of policies and procedures relevant to Equity & Inclusion to ensure that they are consistent with the University’s objectives and legislation and are kept current, in accordance with the University’s Policy Framework.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Experience in receiving and responding to complaints of discrimination, sexual harassment, victimisation and vilification or related area.
- Experience designing effective solutions to complex problems.
- Extensive experience in program and project management and delivery.
Special Requirements:
- This position may require the incumbent to occasionally work outside business hours.
- This position may require the incumbent to travel from time-to-time within Victoria, domestic and/or international to attend conferences, events and to represent the university.
