Alfred Health is the main provider of health services to people living in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne and is also a major provider of specialist services to people across Victoria. The health service operates four outstanding facilities, The Alfred, Caulfield, Sandringham and the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre.

 

Overview of the Role:

Deakin University and Alfred Health have an established research centre, The Centre for Quality and Patient Safety Research Alfred Health Partnership. The purpose of the inaugural Chair in Mental Health Nursing (Alfred Health partnership) is to provide academic and professional leadership to clinical and academic staff and students of the respective institutions. The Chair will lead research programs, develop inquiry- based research and activities to inform mental health nursing clinical practice and education. The results will impact outcomes for the quality and safety of patient care and Alfred Health and Deakin University’s reputations in mental health nursing.

The Faculty of Health is dedicated to being at the forefront of teaching, learning, creating and social development and fostering cutting-edge research and discovery. The School of Nursing and Midwifery places high emphasis on research that makes a difference and is solution-led. We work closely with industry partners and the government to translate findings into practice.

 

As the Chair you will:

  • Liaise with the Chief Nursing Officer - Executive Director Nursing Services, Alfred Health, and the Dean of Nursing and Midwifery to contribute to, inform and evaluate the development of inquiry-based nursing practice at Alfred Health. Additionally, to ensure integration of research activities through the Centre for Quality and Patient Safety Research (QPS) with Alfred Health Nursing Education strategic priorities and activities.
  • Provide academic leadership to School of Nursing and Midwifery and Alfred Health researchers and clinicians, specifically in the area of mental health including contributing to the review of units and courses.
  • Work in partnership with Alfred Health and the School to implement the mental health nursing research strategy for Alfred Health.
  • Coordinate and build the mental health nursing programs of the Alfred Health partnership including supervising and mentoring of colleagues, clinical nurses, and research students in research practice.
  • Represent mental health nursing professionals at Alfred Health and Deakin at research presentations and dedicated research days and facilitating and supporting Alfred Health and Deakin staff to participate in such activities.
  • Nurture and mentor staff in Alfred Health and the University in research.

                                                                                                                                       

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Registered, or eligible to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a registered nurse
  • Demonstrable academic leadership and professional expertise in the field of mental health nursing
  • PhD in a relevant discipline
  • Evidence of immunisation status
  • National Police Check
  • Working with Children Check (Employee)
