The role:
The primary purpose of the Consultant, Engineering Services is to work closely with the Director, Entrepreneurship in advancing its engineering programs, research initiatives, and infrastructure projects. The Consultant, Engineering Services will collaborate with faculty, researchers, and university leadership to provide expert advice on a variety of engineering-related matters, including research design, project management, curriculum development, and industry partnerships. This role requires a deep understanding of the engineering field, along with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a diverse range of stakeholders.
As a Consultant, you will:
- Provide expert guidance on the development and execution of engineering-related research initiatives. Assist faculty and research teams in identifying project needs, designing experimental setups, and analysing data.
- Collaborate with academic staff to review and develop engineering curricula, ensuring alignment with industry standards, emerging technologies, and accreditation requirements.
- Foster relationships with industry partners to identify opportunities for collaborative research, internships, and real-world problem-solving projects. Support the university’s efforts in bridging the gap between academia and industry.
- Offer technical expertise and recommendations on university infrastructure projects, including laboratory design, equipment selection, and technology integration.
- Assist in writing grant proposals and securing funding for engineering research and development projects. Guide faculty in navigating funding opportunities and preparing successful applications.
- Lead and mentor a team of product engineers.
To be successful, you’ll have:
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training in government, industry, or research environment
- Experience in innovation, technology or research and development
- Knowledge of business processes including but not limited to project management, planning, intellectual property management and budget processes
- Demonstrated understanding of research and technology concepts and ability to achieve commercial outcomes
- Well-developed people management skills
- Well-developed research and analytical skills
- Working with Children’s Check (Employee) or willing to obtain
- Ideally, Engineers Australia Chartered membership
