The Technical Officer is essential in providing support for the School of Medicine's academic teaching and research programs, ensuring that practical and technical services are delivered safely, efficiently, and on time. The position also involves working closely with the School's Technical Team to ensure adherence to protocols for biological and chemical management, inventory oversight, and waste disposal.

Please note that this role is based on site due to the practical nature of the position.

As a Technical Officer, you will:

  • Provide technical expertise for the School’s teaching programs. Complete set up and pack down of practical classes and examinations, including preparation and maintenance of human and animal specimens, simulation mannequins and models, clinical equipment, molecular biology materials.
  • Coordinate on a day-to-day basis, materials and equipment requirements of staff and students for the running of practical classes within disciplines of expertise clarifying expectations and responding promptly to resolve technical problems, issues, and requirements to ensure client needs met to agreed standards and timelines.
  • Understand local processes, prepare standard documents, manage records, regularly track progress of work tasks, and identify key issues.
  • Recognise the importance of teamwork and of effective communication amongst team members and build rapport within immediate team and diverse range of stakeholders in ways that are respectful and inclusive of others.
  • Provide operational support for academic staff at the teaching sites in support of the MD teaching and running of the site at Ararat.
  • Support operations on site during assessment periods and other critical activities related to the teaching of the MD program.                                                                                                                                                                                 

 To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Completion of a Degree without subsequent relevant work experience; or
  • Completion of an Associate Diploma and at least two years subsequent relevant work experience; or
  • Completion of a Post-Trades Certificate or Advanced Certificate and extensive relevant experience as a Technician; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting, ideally within a tertiary education environment.
  • Good knowledge of OH&S (Occupational Health and Safety) principles and an understanding of the requirements for safety when working with biological and chemical hazards.
