As a Director, Candidature Operations and Researcher Development, you will:

Lead bold, future-focused initiatives that spark innovation, drive continuous improvement, and align with Deakin’s strategic and research ambitions.

Champion the evolution of the Researcher Development Academy, shaping high-impact programs that empower researchers and advance the University’s long-term vision.

Build strong, trusted partnerships with academic staff and graduate researchers to ensure training and development offerings are relevant, responsive and truly transformative.

Inspire and develop high-performing teams, fostering a collaborative, growth-oriented culture within Candidature Operations and Researcher Development.

Drive cutting-edge, efficient operating models, leveraging sector insights to enhance Deakin’s competitiveness, while delivering clear reporting, accountability, and measurable impact.

                                                                                                                                                                                   

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • Qualifications (PhD preferred) or substantial leadership experience, supported by a strong record of expertise in research or academic management.
  • A track record of designing and delivering strategic initiatives that enhance higher degree research programs and outcomes.
  • Deep knowledge of current trends in graduate research, with the ability to translate emerging ideas into practical, organisation-wide improvements.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, with the confidence to work autonomously, guide direction, and manage complex research operations.
  • Exceptional people, resource, and change-management skills, complemented by strong communication, negotiation and influencing abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in dynamic environments.
