About the role

This role is for someone who enjoys working through complexity, asking good questions, and turning that understanding into coordinated action – particularly where people and ideas need to come together.

As a consultant, Deakin Transformation, you’ll work in collaboration with key stakeholders to support the planning, coordination and implementation of significant change initiatives across the University. These initiatives are centred on how people work, lead, collaborate and experience the organisation.

You’ll help translate strategic priorities into clear, coordination action. You’ll often be working through others, guiding shared word forward, and helping maintain momentum across small cross functional groups, as well as taking responsibility for your own stream of work.
This role will suit someone who thrives when working through ambiguity, is curious about how the organisation operates, and enjoys learning as they go. You’ll be trusted to manage your work with a high degree of autonomy, while staying closely connected to people, context and outcomes.

As a Consultant, Deakin Transformation, you will:

  • Plan, coordinate and implement change programs and initiatives.
  • Coordinate work across small, cross functional groups or project squads.
  • Use analytical methods to understand university context and develop practical, high-impact solutions that support performance objectives.
  • Translate strategic priorities into clear, realistic plans that help work move forward.
  • Enable others to deliver by sequencing work effectively, removing barriers, and following through on commitments.
  • Shape communications and engagement approaches that reflect a sound understanding of audience needs, concerns and organisational dynamics.
  • Develop and provide the necessary documentation and reporting to support the management and coordination of the program and/or project.
  • Continually evaluate progress, re-prioritise work in response to changing needs, and overcome barriers to achieve outcomes. Promote teamwork across functions and contribute positively to a collaborative, inclusive and values-led working environment.
  • Set a positive example of ethical behaviour and professional achievement.

To be Successful, you’ll have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience; or
  • Extensive experience and management expertise; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated experience contributing to or coordinating people-focused change, transformation or improvement initiatives in a large, complex organisation.
  • Experience leading work through others — for example, coordinating project teams, working groups or delivery partners — without formal line management.
  • Strong problem-solving capability.
  • High learning agility, with the ability to quickly build understanding of new organisational environments and stakeholder dynamics.
  • Strong planning, organisation and prioritisation skills.
