Who are we?

Deakin Law School, which sits within the Faculty of Business and Law, is a diverse community of scholars teaching and researching in Australian, comparative, transnational and international law.

Deakin Law school is looking to appoint up to four developing or established scholars to ongoing academic positions. Scholars working in all fields of legal teaching and research are welcome to apply, with expertise in the following fields being particularly welcome: Property and Environmental Law; Contract and Commercial Law; Criminal Law and Procedure; and Legal Ethics.

What will I do?

As a Lecturer (Level B) or Senior Lecturer (Level C) in Deakin Law School you will be actively involved in teaching, including:

  • Delivering student-centred education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, across a variety of teaching modes (asynchronous, synchronous online, and face-to-face);
  • As a member or a leader of teaching teams, developing and implementing effective and innovative curriculum design and educational resources;
  • Creating and administering a variety of assessment tasks, providing clear assessment criteria and timely feedback to students;
  • Supervising research students (Honours and HDR);
  • Contributing to a culture of collaboration and educational excellence within the Law School, including mentoring of colleagues and building teaching and learning capability.

You will also undertake scholarly research, publishing in quality journals, securing research funding, and advancing knowledge within your field. By developing a body of work recognised for quality and impact you will build a national reputation. As a senior lecturer, you will also lead collaborations that enables high quality and high impact research.

You will foster relationships with other researchers, and with industry, community, government and the profession, contributing to the University’s community engagement agenda and enhancing the scholarly reputation of the University.

To be successful, you will have:

  • a PhD in law;
  • an excellent record of scholarly learning and teaching in undergraduate and/or postgraduate programs, including research supervision;
  • an emerging (Level B) or national (Level C) research reputation, underpinned by publications in quality journals and/or success in obtaining research funding;
  • an ability to contribute to leadership within the Law School;
  • an ability to contribute to community engagement around legal research and the teaching of law;
  • excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to establish good working relationships with colleagues;
  • a commitment to fostering relationships with fellow researchers, the profession, the community, industry, and government and with other higher educational institutions.
