Who are we?

The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Built Environment is dedicated to being at the forefront of teaching, learning, creativity, social development, and groundbreaking research and discovery. We work closely with industry partners and government bodies to translate discoveries into real-word impact. This role will specifically be working within the School of Life and Environmental Sciences.

 

About the role:

The Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Sustainable Marine Management will play a key role in shaping Deakin University’s teaching and research in marine and coastal sustainability at the Warrnambool campus. Enhance the Bachelor of Marine Science through engaging, innovative teaching and bring strong expertise in marine sustainability, including the integration of Indigenous knowledge and partnerships.

 

As a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, Sustainable Marine Management, you will:

  • Lead and collaborate on unit and course design, driving curriculum innovation, refining learning resources, and shaping high-quality student experiences.
  • Bring industry and research practice into teaching, creating engaging, authentic learning that boosts student success and employability.
  • Champion educational excellence, supporting students, mentoring colleagues, and contributing to impactful pedagogical and discipline-based research.
  • Drive high-impact research and innovation by securing funding, leading interdisciplinary and industry partnerships, and delivering research, translation, and commercialisation outcomes with growing national and international recognition.
  • Foster research excellence and future talent by supervising and mentoring HDR and early-career researchers, building strong industry-connected research cultures, and communicating impactful work to national and global audiences.

 

To be successful, you’ll have:

  • PhD in a relevant discipline with strong expertise in marine sustainability and management, and a demonstrated commitment to integrating Indigenous knowledge and partnerships across teaching, research, and engagement.
  • Excellent teaching record, including innovative curriculum design and (where relevant) research supervision in undergraduate and/or postgraduate programs.
  • An emerging or established research reputation evidenced by quality publications, exhibitions, external funding, and research that benefits communities.
  • Proven ability to engage positively with industry, government, and community partners, and to contribute to leadership in teaching, research, and administration.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong ability to build effective, collaborative working relationships.
